The Augustana Heritage Gathering VII
Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois
The Augustana Heritage Gathering VII held in Rock Island, Illinois, June 10-13, 2010, offered special opportunities to remember the beginnings of the historic Augustana Synod and its institutions, during the 2010 Sesquicentennial year of its founding in 1860.
Symposia and lectures told the many stories of Augustana ministries, with special emphasis on the role of women, and foreign ministries. Topics include the Americanization of the Augustana Synod, founder Lars Paul Esbjörn´s continued contacts with, and interest in, the Augustana Synod after returning to Sweden, Augustana hymnody, and the impact of Augustana traditions on contemporary church life and ministry.
